Borrowing textbooks from the library is a great way to save a few dollars but here are a few things to keep in mind.
We don’t always have the newest edition
Often, if we carry a copy of your textbook, it is usually an older version of the one you are using in your classes.
You can search for textbooks in the library catalogue – it is best to include one or more of the authors names as well as the title of your textbook as textbook titles can be quite generic.
You can’t keep the textbook for the whole term
CUE’s undergraduate students can borrow Concordia’s books for 6 weeks but if someone places a hold on that book, you will be required to bring it back early.
Library & Bookstore Alternatives
Many popular textbook titles are available to rent at a price lower than the book’s purchase price. To see if your textbook is available to rent, visit vitalsource.com.
Request to be added to this closed Facebook group to see if anyone at CUE is selling a used copy of a textbook that you need.
CSA’s Used Book Market
At the start of every semester, the Concordia Students’ Association puts up a used book market for students to buy and sell used textbooks. The used book market is usually located in upper Tegler by the coffee kiosk.
If stores have a copy of your textbook, ordering online can often save you some money. Make sure to double check for shipping fees and delivery dates before you order.
