How to Do a Hanging Indent

Almost all standard citation styles require you to use a hanging indent when formatting your bibliography, references, or works cited page.

How To Do A Hanging Indent In Microsoft Word

  1. Select your citation list
  2. Right-click
  3. Select Paragraph
  4. Select “hanging” from the “special” drop-down menu
  5. Change the indentation to  0.5″ or 1.27 cm
  6. Click ok

Using Google Docs?

  1. Highlight your citations list
  2. Click on the “Format” tab
  3. Select “align & indent”
  4. Choose “indentation options”
  5. Select “hanging” from the special drop down menu
  6. Click “apply”
